Five-minute fit check

Measure twice.
Get the right shroud.

Two checks. Measure the card for the human fit check. Measure the empty case opening for the instant room check.

Power off first

Shut down, disconnect power, and let the card cool. Never place a metal caliper or ruler near live hardware.

Start with identity

Show the exact board.

Photograph the label that shows the GPU model and OEM part number. For the HP V100, that means a label such as PG500-216. Cover the serial number before uploading.

Then take one straight-on photo of the end where the fan shroud will sit. Keep the camera square to the card so the shell and connector are easy to read.

Three numbers

Use millimeters.

1

Card-end height

Measure the cooler shell from top to bottom at the end where air enters. Do not include the PCI bracket or exposed PCB.

2

Card-end thickness

Measure the widest outside face of the cooler shell at that same end. Do not guess from the number of PCI slots.

3

Free length

Measure from the card end to the first case wall, drive cage, cable, or other obstacle. The shroud and fan both need this space.

A metric caliper is best. A millimeter ruler is acceptable for free length. Report the number you see; do not add clearance.

Room for the shroud

Measure empty space, not the card.

1

Opening height

Measure the clear top-to-bottom opening where the shroud will sit. Stop at the first case part or obstacle.

2

Opening width

Measure clear room across the card end toward neighboring slots, cards, cables, or the side panel.

3

Cable path

Look for any plug or cable entering that empty opening. Blocked or unknown means stop and send a photo.

Keep the numbers separate. Card-shell height and thickness go in the fit request. Empty opening height and width go in the product preflight. Free length is used by both.

Quick case check

Will it clear?

Pick the setup and enter the open length from the card end to the first obstacle. This is the length-only check. It does not check opening height, opening width, card fit, or cooling.

The named Arctic P12, P9, and P8 fans are 25 mm deep. The S12038-4K is 38 mm deep. The checker adds 15 mm for cable bend and working room.

Show the cable path

Photos prevent sanding.

Take a side photo with the power connector and nearby case parts visible. Show where the cable exits and which way it must bend.

If the card is installed, include one wider photo showing the card end, side panel, neighboring card, and any obstruction. Clear cable and case photos catch the failures that a GPU model name cannot.

Ready?

Send the card. Check the room.

Use the fit request for board identity and shell dimensions. Use the product preflight for empty case room. See what happens after the measurement.
